Wouxun kg-689 (vhf)
Hello, and welcome to my guide of the superfine wouxun kg-689 (vhf) 136-174mhz amateur hand held radio! Now before i go into the performance of this radio i'd like to say that the wouxun is the best ive bought so far from the chinese range! And ive had a few, including now for 41 from hong kong brand new in the box, and delivery only being 3-5 days! U really cant go wrong, it has the 2nd best strongest/rugged build of any hand held! Next to the champion of all build hand helds the feidaxin 150/160/450/460, but the wouxun knocks spots off the feidaxin range in many ways! For 1 the wouxun provides nearly 3 times the battery life of the feidaxin, and is about 3 times as sensitive on receive, making it a much more professional handheld! It performs with stunning test results, and has 1w low power and 5w high power, in addition to this the wouxun also has a (distant urgency alarm key) on top of the radio which when pressed transmits a dtmf emergency signal at 7.5w! The radio also has 128 memory channels and 50 ctcss codes 105 dcs codes, also a scrambler for encrypted (totally private transmissions) v.o.x, voice activated transmit, dual frequency display, voice guide - radio talks to you in chinese/english! Steps of 5k,6.25k,10k,12.5k,25k the radio also has a changeable 3 color display! And even has a built in 88-108mhz digital fm broadcast radio, the radio however does not have a 1750hz tone burst, u wud need the wouxun kg-689e if u want that feature, the kg-689e also has 200 memory channels, but an extra 72 memory channels dont really matter and the 1750hz tone burst is rarely used these days, so the 689e is virtually the same as the 689 and 689plus! Anyway the wouxun also has 3 types of scan and 3 types of mute, not forgetting the dtmf encode/decode capability, the receive audio of this radio is fantastic! A maximum 500mw speaker output, sounding very punchy but ultra clear, even with the volume turned up high! Well here gos for the transmit audio and test results for the wouxun, now well what can i say fantastic! After getting home from a test using the wouxun from a fair few miles away at various transmit checkpoints back to the uniden bearcat ubc69xlt-2 scanner/receiver, i found the transmit audio to be perfect! With the clarity and loudness of a kenwood/yaesu handheld, the audio was not muffled in any way and neither did the audio sound tinney, (peg on the nose effect) it was mid-tone, very crisp, and nice and loud, so after a month of owning this radio i am still stunned at how much u get in this elite class of top notch chinese radios! And only 41, which included p
